Most of what Carol learned in her first years came from trial, error, and generous mentors — not from any course or training program. The academic frameworks were useful, in theory. But they rarely told her what to do when the project plan met reality, when the funding logic didn't match the community's priorities, or when the dominant narrative in the room needed to be challenged.
After more than a decade working in international settings across South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Iraq, Rwanda, Kosovo, and Nigeria — leading digital transformation initiatives, designing gender equality programs, and building learning systems inside NGOs — she kept noticing the same gap. People doing serious, committed work in social impact were underserved by the learning available to them. Either it was too academic to use, or too corporate to apply, or it reproduced the very assumptions the sector needed to question.
Beyond Social Science is her answer to that gap.
"I created this space to be the kind of resource I wish I'd had — one that blends insight and action, academic rigor and deep reflection. Not a course about development. A place to think more clearly about the work."
Carol holds a Master’s in Development Management from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a Bachelor’s in Business Management from Florida International University. She’s earned certifications in digital transformation, design thinking, leadership, and project delivery—and has worked in leading international NGOs. Her academic research has explored the power of STEM mentorship for girls in Latin America.
Her most recent work focuses on using technology to advance women’s leadership worldwide and designing digital learning solutions that make knowledge accessible, practical, and transformative.

THERE'S A GAP IN HOW SOCIAL IMPACT PROFESSIONALS LEARN. BEYOND SOCIAL SCIENCE WAS BUILT TO FILL IT.
PRACTICAL. CRITICAL. BUILT FOR THE WORK YOU'RE ACTUALLY DOING.
THE FRAMEWORKS
— with context
You'll engage with the core concepts of international development, gender equality, systems thinking, and digital transformation. But you'll also learn where those frameworks came from, who they serve, and when to question them.
THE CRITIQUE
— without abstraction
Beyond Social Science doesn't treat decolonial thinking or social justice as modules to complete. They're the lens through which every topic is examined. Not as ideology — as intellectual honesty about how this sector works.
THE PRACTICE
— built in
Every course is designed by someone who has done this work. Reflection prompts, application exercises, and field-grounded examples are built into the learning — not added on as extras.
FOUR VALUES WOVEN INTO EVERYTHING
LIFELONG LEARNING
We believe learning doesn't end with a degree or a job title. Lifelong learning means staying curious, open, and reflective, whether you're just starting out or decades into your career. It’s how we grow as individuals, and how we adapt to new technologies, industries, and contexts — especially in a sector that's always changing.
CRITICAL THINKING
Good intentions are not enough. We create space to question systems, unpack assumptions, and move beyond surface-level solutions toward more intentional, honest practice.
INNOVATION
The challenges we face demand new thinking. We value creativity and bold approaches, and we believe that learning itself should model the adaptability we're asking practitioners to develop. Our learning experiences are built to help you think differently and act strategically.
SOCIAL JUSTICE
This is our foundation. Every course, reflection, and resource is rooted in a commitment to equity, inclusion, and community power. Learning should not only expand minds—it should help shape a more just world.
